This crap is serious but it ain’t funny. So go fold the clothes still in the dryer.

November 19, 2011 in The Very Few Times I'll Admit to Having a Soul

If you’re looking for funny stuff this time, you’re not gonna find it here.  Go on and fold those clothes that are probably still in the dryer or clean out that toilet instead.

This is some serious crap for me here.  And this will be one of the rare times I’m serious.

So, mark it down in your little book if you have that little book that everybody tells everybody else to be marking stuff down in.

When I started doing this blog thing, I made a promise to myself about it.  I promised myself I will always strive to make whoever is reading it, feel as if we were sitting somewhere and I was talking to them.

Either one on one or in a group.  But that I was talking to them.

That’s why there’s cursing.  That’s why there’s words I throw in just because I think they go in that particular spot.  That’s why there’s some ungrammatical crap.

It’s me.  Just me and you.

On my Facebook wall the other day, I posted this:

“There is nothing better than having a warped sense of humor and knowing so many of y’all get it and like me in spite of myself. God, I love you people.”

I really mean that crap.

It’s huge for me when someone says something I did or said made them laugh.  Or feel better.  Or even shake their head in utter bewilderment.

It’s a high for me.  But I don’t really strive for that to happen.  I like it better when it just does.

It is huge for me when someone “gets me” and yes, YOU PEOPLE GET ME.

Huge.  Stuff.  For.  Me.

So, imagine my shock when a fellow blogger posts on her site that I am one of 5 bloggers she is bestowing a little award upon.

The Liebster Blog Award.

Do I know what it means?  Uh, hell no.  Do I care?  Uh, well…yeah, kinda.

I contacted Maggie at Accidentally By Design who awarded this to me, to find out what the hell this is what the hell do I do with it.

Here’s what I discovered.

It is bestowed upon rising bloggers who have less than 200 followers.

I’ll take that.  Amen, sister…I’ll take it.

Here’s what she said in our back and forth emails:

“I love reading your blog. You say it like it is.  I am SO glad to have found YOU.  Carrie, you are a great writer.  It won’t be long until you’re big.”

That right there is some serious shit for a girl who simply wanted to write.  But will never call herself a writer because she uses the wrong words, ain’t got a clue how to use a semi-colon and is afraid someone might call her stupid for wanting to do it.

That right there, friends…is my 5-Hour Energy via email.

I’m not sure Maggie really knows just how much her words mean to me and the big burst of love my heart fluttered with when I saw my name on her list.

The next step to receiving this little jewel is to pass it on.  To five other rising bloggers (who I read) with less than 200 followers.

And encourage you to visit them.

I have been reading most of these since I’ve been blogging.  And they have pushed me on through and have supported me with emails and comments when I figured it was stupid to be doing this because, well…I don’t know why.  It was just stupid.

They all have showed me they care.  For months now.

I can’t include Maggie in this list because she gave it to me.  But I would if I could.  And several others I read daily but they don’t fall in the “passing it on” requirements.

I’m passing The Liebster Award to:

1.  Karyn at An Observant Mind

She’s brilliant.  A rare find with the kindness and compassion you treasure when you discover it.  And she’s way over in Australia as well as in my heart.  (Awww…)

2.  Felicia at The New Black

A modern-day fashionista.  She can take what you think is the worst of the worst in your closet and make it look hot.  She’ll make you re-think your “throw-aways.”  She’s just down the road from me in Austin.  Sweeet!

3.  Maren at From Cow to Wow

A precious soul sharing her heart and her journey of her wins at losing weight.  Her discipline and willingness to stick with it is motivating.  She’s in Norway.  Too far for me to hug, but I do hope to one day…

4.  Jennifer at Chaos Wrapped in Chocolate Covered Grins

A seriously proud mom of some seriously cute cuties.  Her baby girl is a redhead and her little boy is a witty gem!  She’s a strong military wife living in New Jersey who might one day live in Austin.  YAY ME!

5.  Mark at Yelling Near You

His quirky outlook and take on things continuously make me smile.  He has an eye for the unusual and I’m sure that’s why we click.  If I’m ever in Vancouver, British Columbia…our first beer is on me.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it many more times, but thank you for getting me.

Thank you for getting me.

Thank you, thank you for getting me.

Peggy Scarborough November 19, 2011 at 7:48 pm

Carrie November 19, 2011 at 8:06 pm

Thanks so much…I didn’t even know there was such a thing. That’s how little I find out I know.

But anything from a fellow blogger is huge to me. Maggie just sent me over the edge with that!

Stacie November 19, 2011 at 7:57 pm

Great great great. I knew you could do it.

Carrie November 19, 2011 at 8:07 pm

Thanks…I’ve seen it on other blogs I read but had no clue.

It might be little to some but it’s huge to me. Especially coming from one of my favorites.

Sandy Nesom November 19, 2011 at 8:09 pm

Maren November 20, 2011 at 10:00 am

Well now I get that feeling you described when you read your name on that list. Thank you so much. So very much. I’m doing this blog thing for myself first and foremost, but I’d be a stinky liar if I didn’t admit that .. I do enjoy it when people take an interest. We’ll sort out that hug one day for sure. You are the best! ♥

Oh mah gosh I love finding more people like myself!!! Happy squeal. 🙂
Wait, you mind that insulting as I can be a bit strange. Um, I love people with a warped sense of humor! Back to happy squeal!!

I take that as a total compliment, Joanna! Absolutely!

The world needs more quirkities in it. =)

Joanna November 21, 2011 at 4:07 pm

And then I noticed my fingers once again ran away and typed something my brain didn’t finish. Yeah, the typo just adds to my um, charm! Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Well loser me missed this big moment being on holidays! SO happy you were nominated, absolutely you deserve it 100%, sand honored that you chose ME!!

You’re the best and I’m so excited to get an award that I have no idea of the meaning of too! 😉 Sadly, I was one of those kids that was good at nothing. Really, surprisingly there were no awards given out for the fastest talker, the most creative cheat in math or those that could recite the 90210 theme song verbatim. (I know, I went to a harsh school). As a result, I never had an award on my shelf. No trophies, no awards. So this literally is my first! I really want to print it out and frame it or something. Would that make me a sad-ass? We’ll see.

All jokes aside, I have made so many “Friends” in this blogging world and learned so much about writing, humor and how great people really are (and here I thought the world was full of assholes for so long!) YOU Carrie are the leader of the pack! (of great people I’ve learned from, not the assholes – of course!)

Ill be sure and check out and add the other bloggers you have mentioned, Im planning on spending Wednesday this week catching up on all-things-blog.

Thanks sister, you rock!

YAY! So glad you came back to a good surprise!

I’m telling you…we’re way too much alike. I could almost write the same thing.

I have always yacked too much, suck so bad at numbers I barely know my age, and remember living to see what Kelly and Dylan would do next.

Absolutely agree about so many great people in the blogging world. And it’s certainly one of those things to have to see to believe. Those feelings can’t be put into words.

You have always been so good and so motivating to me. From the bottom of my heart…thank you!

mark @ yelling near you November 21, 2011 at 4:03 pm

Thanks, Carrie! You’re awesome and definitely deserve this award and I can’t believe you passed it on to me too. I’ve been a putz about blogging and commenting lately, but I’ll turn it around, hopefully this week.

Thanks, Mark! You totally have it passed your way. I look forward to seeing your take on things ’cause it always makes me laugh.

Or at least think. =)

THANK YOU for the mention, my friend. Like you, I enjoy writing, have great passion for my subject and just hope someone, somewhere gets me.

Oh, trust me. Plenty “get you.” If you can make THIS girl think about what’s hanging in her closet…you got it going on.

I think you’re on to something. I see other fashion bloggers and I think, “That’s not Felicia.” They make it way too deep…too detailed. You keep it simple and easy and do-able for the every day girl..

And for people like me…that’s A+ stuff!!

Maggie S. November 22, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Aww, Girl! What a great friend! I can’t wait to meet all these award winners.

Love your guts.

Mark said, “putz” That made me laugh.

You should consider changing your name to Fabulous.

Yes, you’re THAT cool.
